Well we got our little Dood-ling Gwen Thor a Fender Strat Pac....

She is still in shock....it has everything you need to get started with a Guitar. The amp....cables...guitar.....DVD..and most of all....HEADPHONES!

We also got her lessons at Marshall Music starting Jan 6th....she is really really HAPPY! I am kinda excited too....I told her I expect to hear Gary Hoey Christmas songs by next Christmas....hehehe

Nothing like actually surprising your children with a cool gift on Christmas....
Mrs Dood actually thought of it and I told little Gwen Thor that MOM picked out her big gift this year.....Little Gwen was worried...thought it was girlie clothes.....hehehe. She knows if I pick out the gift it is cool tech stuff....

I'm sure Miss Dood will never forget that Christmas. This is the kind of memories that get engraved on your heart and keep growing every day.

I still remember the day I got offered my first guitar, although it was a cheap acoustic Gibson mimicry that broke into pieces 7 months later. I didn't expect it at all and at the same time, it was what I secretly dreamed of. Now that I think about it, I'd say that event definitely changed my life. Getting a musical instrument in your teenage can play a huge part in your personal development.

I hope Miss Dood will be grateful to her parents and get them tons of ear plugs for next Christmas ^_-

Little Gwen Thor is thankful...she is shy about it....Ask PieXags when he comes back...He had to work on her to talk in TS.

I remember being taught in Japan by a Japanese lady. It was fun to learn new stuff on my clarinet. All those scales, practicing and sight reading.

Hell...I am thinking about taking lessons with that thing.

Once again...I hope she finds her niche in this guitar. It would be sweet when I become a really Old Dood and she can play some Blues for me while I am being spoon fed my "soft food".

Thats a dam nice guitar for someone that doesn't play guitar. Dam kids these days making bands left and right. But you sure are nice parents for putting that much thought into your gift.

Way to go! I have been playing guitar for many years (too many to admit), and I am still thankful to my parents for getting me my first guitar, of course now I cannot go to any family gathering without my dad saying to me "Play some Johnny Cash".

I would think that when she starts her lesson's at Mashall Music next month she will meet others in her age group and maybe practice together. Then I would assume there will be more boys then girls playing...and the boys would love to have a girl practice with them....shoot, I would if I was a young Dood in their shoes...

On another note...I am going to get her a better amp cable...and better strings....first I will ask(or have my daughter ask) at her guitar lessons as to what brand would be the best. I have read up on this Fender pak that the cables and the strings are not that great. Makes sense...seems any kind of electronic equipment you by now a days they come with crummy cables. I had to buy good ones for my HDTV and 5.1 surround set up....world of difference there.

lol.. but normal girls that are my friends and such like vollyball (i dont know how to spell that) and junk like that

They also like playing football, my friends that are girls

dont like watching football, but it seems they like to play it, so go play catch with her once in a while

unless shes like 18, which she doesnt seem like, and thinks its lame.

you're just about the coolest dad ... lil' doodette is one lucky kid.
If she sticks to it she's gonna have a blast for the rest of her life....
Kudos to the dad who had the foresight not to get such a cool instrument - (thank God, it wasn't an electric bass - we have enough female bass players).

Well...I am not the one that thought of it...it was Mrs Dood. I just got excited and said write the check... Our daughter is upstairs right now trying to tune it with this little 9v electronic tuner that came with the guitar.

As for other things she does...she played BasketBall for years...she loves to play Softball......Golf....and she is in School Plays...also she is following in her brother's foot steps and joined the Acedemic Decathalon team in High School. When her brother was on that team they won 2 out of 3 years (State finals) he was on it and went on to Nationals. All expenses paid too.

You should encourage her to practice alot my parents got me a guitar for my 8th birthday and I played all the way through high school and now I'm going to college on a music scholarship. I'd keep my kids away from mainstream music it destroys your brain and whatever musical potential you might have.

She will PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE...then...PRACTICE some more! hehe

Mrs Dood and I are not spending all that cash so that guitar will collect dust. What I want her to do is get involved with others that play and go from there.

As for music, I will let her play what she wants. She is a Rocker....not a Rapper (Thank God). She likes alternate rock...some classic....musicals...etc. She will surprise me when I put on the Classic Rock station and she will tell me how much she likes that group. I almost cry...

huh? I can't understand your last sentence fully....

She WILL practice. She has to build up the calouses on her fingers. A little pressure now and again is a GOOD thing. To much letting things slide for kids now a days has allowed kids to become lazy and non-committed to whatever they first wanted to do. I firmly believe she will thank us later on.

However, I honestly think she will take off with this guitar. I have a good feeling about it. I will take a back seat more then most will realize...but I will ask how it is going and how much practice she has been doing...not hard to NOT notice an Electric Guitar being practice on...

Very cool dad dood!
I got a roy rodgers plywood guitar with plastic strings for my birthday one year LOL. My pop said that when i could play something he could recognise the he'd get me the guitar i wanted. Lucky for him I did'nt know much then!
That christmas I got the Tesco Del Ray I picked out of an aldens catalog.
I was 12.. I still play now and am a die hard strat man. Electrics can weep if your sad, laugh if you in that mood. Name the mood..that strat will let you speak it without words. Got me thru a LOT of teenage angst.
As for strings...it gets very personal as to taste. For me it's Fender ultra light. Easy on the fingers and great sound. Cables just use what you already know..it's all about signal quality. So gold is good.. lol.

Any way..your idea about lessons for yourself is cool. I've taught my 2 daughters to play and now they blow me away. We have a LOT of fun just jamming.

So keep up the great parenting. You rock.

She'll probably get through a few sets of strings very fast while learning how to tune so you might want to stock up on those

My friend is getting a new guitar too this week so he's been telling me all about which one he wants.
